Jummah Mubarak Everyone!!!

Salaams Ummah, Jummah Mubarak and a happy Friday to you all.

I absolutely adore Fridays for all the obvious reasons and much much MORE (insert sly smile here lol). I usually head to my Masjid during lunch for the Jummah service and a much needed khutbah. Dressing in traditional garb on Fridays is a must. Today I threw on my favorite super comfy navy blue abaya with a camel colored H&M cardigan and some Uggs. I topped it off with a Gucci bag and my favorite Aldo accessories.

R&B Showcase at SOB’s in NYC

As salaamu alaikum. Hiii honey bunnies :0) ...

Last night was an amazing night. I had the opportunity to hang out with some friends and hit the city for an R&B showcase at SOB's. At first I was very hesitant and nervous. I haven't been to a social event since I took my shahadah and I've never been around my "industry" peers wearing hijab. Although I was nervous once I was dressed and hit the scene I felt a boost of confidence, and surprisingly my hijab gave me an immense sense of pride. Some amazing talent was displayed at the showcase and I'm very happy I decided to go. We Muslimahs should always feel confident and comfortable representing Islam AND that was my lesson learned... MashaAllah!!

Army Green Dream

Here's a little something I put together for work today. I am in love with Army green colored items and took advantage of that today. I have on 7 of all mankind jeans, a Zara military inspired dress, Steve Madden motorcycle boots, a classic Gucci bag and my favorite pashmina/hijab. Fashionable... Modest... CUTE

Sushi Yum!!!

Today my hubby and I went to an all you can eat sushi place for lunch… It was sooo yummy!! They had about 15 different kinds of sushi rolls and I think my hubby had all 15 lol.  I, on the other hand, only had 4 different kinds. I am extremely picky, and hate trying new foods. I must say the ones that I had were really good and on top of that they were super fresh. Are you sushi eater? If so what’s your favorite sushi roll? Mine is spicy shrimp tempura. Yum!

Imaan the Muslimah (LOL)

I was walking through Target last week and she stopped me dead in my tracks. Everything about this painting intrigued me. A black woman, with her head covered completely relates to my current life, and the fact that she has on cute hoop earings was an extra treat. She looks so relaxed and peaceful... I think she is soooo beautiful.

Traditional Muslimah Garb

    I wanted to talk briefly about the traditional way of dressing for Muslimahs.
As a new Muslimah, who was once a slave to the fashion world, its a bit of a struggle for me to dress in the traditional garb. Big shapeless abayas and khimars along with covering my latest wash and set with a hijab was truly a mortifying thought for me. As I began to study and learn more about why us Muslimahs should be covered up, I embraced it wholeheartedly. I must say, its a relief to walk down the street without some strange man undressing me with his eyes or shouting rude and vulgar obscenities at me. Its also an extra treat to think that only my future husband will be able to enjoy my physical beauty. Although I am still easing into the traditional way of dressing, I encourage all muslimahs to embrace the sunnah way of dressing. We are all here to please Allah (swt) first and foremost!!
Below I have on a traditional black abaya and hijab. I added a few cute pins to my hijab and topped it off with my favorite Chanel bag. What do you guys think?

My Daughter, Her Business, Got To Love It!!!

     My daughter made me laugh so hard today, I just had to share the story...   

So my daughter comes in my room and says, "Here's a coupon". I look down at the paper that she handed me and it says "Feet coupon free". I look up at her and say "what's this"? she says "That's a coupon for my spa, you can only use it on Wednesday". Of course I looked at her like she was losing it. Then I remembered I bought her a Obeez spa set for Eid... So then she says "Come see my business". I get up and on her bedroom door there is a sign with prices and services for her spa business. LOL!! Alhumdulillah... It made me laugh so hard, but at the same time, I was so proud of her sense of business at the age of 7. She's already trying to figure out how to be productive in life? Got to love it!!!

Remixing The Over Garment

As salaamu alaikum and good day to you all...

 So, I'm not the biggest fan of the traditional over garments and abaya's but I certainly wear them as often as possible. I try to dress them up with jeans underneath and with super cute coats, bags and shoes. Here are 2 of my "remixed over garment" looks. I hope its Sunnah and modest enough as my intentions are to please Allah (swt). What do you think??

The Controversial Dress

As'salaamu Alaikum and good day to you all...

Today was a special day for me because I saw my Abu and was able to make salaat with him for the very first time, Masha ‘Allah. It was an amazingly epic moment, Ahumduallah for that experience. Below is the outfit that I had on. A green vintage baby doll dress, 7 For All Mankind jeans, Steve Madden snake print oxfords, a black wool blazer, Chanel bag, and a cheetah print hijab.

Although it was one of my favorite modest outfits since converting, as I was able to incorporate my love for fashion with my love for Islam, it didn’t go over so well with the muslimahs from my local masjid. Apparently it isn’t sunnah enough and “I should consider dressing more modest” :0/ ...  I was told  my outfit is totally acceptable but now I’m not so sure. What do you think?

     Imani, the older more reserved sister is a 33 years old mother of 3 and wife of 1 :0/  (lol, there's that qwirky comedic spin)...  As a mother and wife, living in the suburbs of ATL, she has a more laid back, easy going lifestyle but, still has an edge to her from her time growing up in the streets of Brooklyn, NY. She loves fashion but is more of the everyday fashionista.
 
    Me (Bahiyah), the single, childless sister, is a 31 year old career women with 12 years of marketing experience, and a history that can make your head spin.  Being the wilder, untamed one allows me to push the boundaries and take you on an adventurous rollercoaster ride that you aren’t sure how you got on, but refuse to get off. My opinions and outlook on things is edgier and  caters to the fashionably trendy urban city girl.
 
     We are both new muslimahs trying to find our way back to our Islamic roots. While struggling to overcome the new challenges in our everyday life, we are embracing the only way of life for us.
