Lacatation Cookies... Yummy!!

Asa sisters!

I just love being a mommy and Kedar is just a perfect little baby that loves his mommy milk.
I've been nursing since dy one and I have a really good supply but lately I've been having a lot of up and down days. So before it gets worst I decided to do something about it. I went online to see what I can do to up my supply and I ran into a recipe for lacatation cookies.

Here's the recipe

1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
1 3/4 c. oats
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
3/4 c. almond butter or peanut butter
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. flax
3 T brewer's yeast
1/3 c. water
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 large eggs
2 c. (12oz) chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts of your choice

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit

Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt in a bowl.
In a large bowl, beat almond butter, butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, brewer's yeast, flax and water until creamy.
Mix in eggs.
Gradually beat in flour mixture.
Mix in nuts and chocolate chips.
Add oats slowly, mixing along the way.

Place balls of dough onto greased baking sheets or baking stones.
Press down each ball lightly with a fork.
Bake 12 minutes.

How To Organize Your Hijabs!

As salaamu alaikum... Hello darlings!

I wanted to talk about hijab organization today. Like every other fashionable muslimah, I've racked up on a ridiculous amount of hijabs/khimars/scarves. I have over 150 hijabs and I have NOWHERE TO PUT THEM!!

After some trusty research I found a few solutions. Check them out below. InshaAllah this will help a few of you as it did me.

As always, let me know your thoughts and suggestions ;0)

This is my favorite solution of them all. Grab a few plastic hangers and a few shower curtain rings and voila!!

I see these "scarf" hangers all over but they won't work for me considering the amount that I have.

Check out a few more helpful ideas below.

Fashionable Hijab Accessories!!

As Salaamu Alaikum Wa'rahmatullahi Wa'barakatuhu...

Hey Loves. I recently started experimenting with my hijab and ways to fancy them up when going out. At first I thought hijab accessories were a bit silly and unnecessary but us muslimahs like to get a lil fancy too. After quick research I realized head bands/hair accessories are a great way to dress up a hijab... when done correctly of course. Styling a hijab can go horribly wrong if you don't know what you're doing lol. Check out a few really cool "hijab accessories", including a few Pink Bootz hijab pins, that would compliment a hijab wonderfully. As always, let me know your thoughts ;0)

My Niqab Experience...

As Salaamu Alaikum Sisters!
As a muslimah, I strive to get better and better according to Islamic standards. I study often and try to learn new things as much as I can. Over the summer I found myself fascinated with Niqabs. I admire the commitment and I loved the thought of fully covering my husbands goodies. I decided to try it out. I researched YouTube for "how to" videos and stumbled upon a very modern version of Niqab. The lady who posted the video even gave tips for Niqabi beginners. She said to start by doing it on weekends and with your husband. I was nervous. Brooklyn NY isn't the most comfortable place to begin a Niqabi career, but the style was modern so I went for it one weekend while running errands with hubby. Check out the look below...

I loved it!! I decided to do more research on Niqab, and when I did I realized wearing it in a modern style was sort of disrespectful. I decided to buy an official Niqab and wear it the correct way. See below...

I literally fell in love... and so did my husband. The Niqab gave me a sense of pride. It also helped me to avoid sinning because i didn't want to misrepresent the beautiful symbolism. I had a slight problem tho,,, I couldn't breathe that well and it made me feel slightly claustrophobic. I was so sad but I promised myself I'd try it again during the winter time InshaAllah. Overall it was an amazing experience that I'd love to commit to permanantly one day.

Modest Fashion for US!!

As Salaamu Alaikum Loves!
I wanted to share a few of my fave modest looks with you guys. I hope you can find inspiration in these looks as I did. I've added a few looks that I created as well. Ill try to do this once a week for weekly inspiration. Let me know what you think and remember, always keep it covered... and cute!

My CRAZY birth story!

So im going to start from the day before ..
My nieces(3 of them) and my nephew (just 1) came down from NYC to visit for a week, so I had a total of 7 kids in my house .. I decided to take them to the skating rink Friday evening.. While at the skating rink I was having  contractions but I’ve been having contractions from 23 weeks so this wasn't new for me. The only difference was it was a little more intense but nothing major.

We left the skating rink about 10:30pm got pizza and went home .. I told hubby if my contractions get any more intense and any closer together ( they were 5-10 min apart) we are going to have to go to the hospital. Well once I laid down the contractions were further apart and less intense so I figure nothing major is going to happen because this is normal.

I went to bed around 11:30pm, I actually slept really well that night which is rare. I woke up about 4:45am to use the bathroom, wipe no blood nothing so I went back to lay down but I couldn’t fall asleep then I started having contraction again but nothing major as normal .. At about 5:50am I swear I heard a pop so I got up to see if my water broke there was little fluid but nothing major but when I wiped there was a little blood so I figure hey this is different it must be time ..

I woke hubby up and said I think it time as I was walking around trying to get my stuff I got a really bad contraction that lasted about a min I couldnt move or anything once it was over I said hurry up before I get another one by time I got to the steps I got another one and couldn't walk down the steps once it was over I ran down the steps to the garage to get in the car but right before I got it in I had another really bad contraction. Once I sat down in the car, I felt major pressure and I knew he was coming.

All I remember is yelling really loud HE"S COMING ( I yelled it so loud my 17 year old ran upstairs to check on me) .. my hubby looked at me like I was crazy and said what you mean he’s coming I said he’s coming right now call 911 and I started pulling my pants off.. My hubby didn't even have time to call so he just took off his shirt, helped me pull off my pants and when he looked he said he saw the sac starting to coming out, he said he knew he had to break it so he dug his finger into it and it broke and soon as it broke I had the push, I pushed once and his head was out and then I pushed again and his whole body was out( he was born at 6:15am) .. hubby grabbed him and put him on me .. then he called 911 and my 17 year old ran to get towels to cover Kedar ( that the Scooby doo towel you see in the picture ..lol)

once 911 was on the phone they told my hubby to find something to tie off the cord by time we got the baby wrapped up and the cord tied off, hubby pulled the car out the garage so the ambulance will have easier access .. they got there in like 8 mins from the time we called 911 .. they suction the baby and put him in a blue foam looking bag to keep him warm then they cut the cord and put me in the ambulance .... To me it seem Kedar was having a hard time breathing but he was pink .. he didn't hardly cry so that scared me too .. he also had lot of meconium on him, all I wanted was to get to the hospital to make sure he was ok... When we got to the hospital (30 mins away) he was perfectly healthy which I was so happy to hear ..

I wish hubby would have took a picture of my car he said it was gross looking ( as it had blood, fluids, and meconium everywhere) you could even see the sac Kedar came out of on the floor but I still wish I was able to get a picture of it to keep. This was definitely an experience me and hubby would never forget .. hubby said he was scared but he is so happy he was able to experience delivering his son.

I'm back... With a new baby!!

Wudu Safe Nail Polish... Woot Woot!

Ill start by saying I have fascination with pretty nail polish and getting a mani/pedi. Ever since I was younger I always relied on my bi-weekly trip to the nail salon to ease the stress of the previous weeks. When I was told muslimahs couldn't wear polish during salaat/prayer (water can not penetrate traditional nail polish, therefore making wudu invalid, therefore making salaat invalid) I gasped and refused to give it up. Over time I realized I had no choice, my prayers are more important than nail polish, and I finally gave it up. My poor Essie collection was shelved and I mourned... lol. Only once a month, during "praycation", was I allowed to indulge in my traditional mani/pedi with my traditional polish. Although I continued my bi-weekly salon trips, I was only able to get a boring buffing of the nails. Blah!

Wellllll, recently I was told about the 'Tuesday In Love' brand of water permeable polish and I truly jumped for joy. I ordered 2 immediately!! I decided on a super pale pink "Cotton Candy" and a pale grey "Grumpy Grey". Although they are a lot lighter in color than expected I still liked them a lot. I'm really excited to be able to wear colored polish that won't prevent me from making proper salaat **insert happy dance here**

Overall, this "story" was told to remind myself and others that nothing in this Dunya/world is more important than our Islamic obligations. As a revert, I onced loved many things in the world but once I got to know Islam I realized how silly my worldly fascinations were.

Get your polish at www.tuesdayinlove.com. The "Woman of Steel" color is super yummy!! Let me know what you think ;0)
